Thanks Flavia,

Time range is not certain, I will check but they have only ever taken Global balance compasses, my impression is they have found things worse recently, will confirm ASAP.

Sam/Ken: Can you please take a look at the email below and send Tim a response today? Have we seen this type of complaints before?

Tim: I am going to a dr. apt this am so by the time I get to the office you will probably be home. I will follow up with you tomorrow, if that is ok? Also is there a specific time range they are seeing these problems or has it been present ever since the Global Balance was introduced?

Thanks
Flavia

Please see the message below.

It should be fairly self explanatory. The business at Fairline now seems to be at risk.

Ken, can you give us an urgent response re the issues raised?

Sam, Could you add this to the list of issues to be dealt with on the Thursday conference calls please?

Dear Tim,
Just to recap on our conversation today, the problems encountered on the danforth compasses fitted to the Fairline boats are as follows:-

The high failure rate is almost entirely due to a frictional problem inside the compass.
The compass card seems too heavily weighted, with the result that the card sticks, and doesn't come on to course correctly.
This is most significant when turning the vessel slowly during compass adjustment.
The card will at times, appear to stop, and yet the vessel is still turning.
Once stopped, it can take several degrees movement of the vessel before the card moves again.

The master that sea trials the vessels has also made comments on the poor performance of the compasses.
He reports that they tend to yaw from side to side underway, also supporting the theory that they are frictional.

My previous experience of Danforth compasses has been that they were a first class item, this however was prior to the Global Balance range.
Fairline took Danforths on my recommendation, but this seems to have backfired, as the Ritchie compasses they replaced were far less trouble.
Unless something positive is actiond soon, I fear that Fairline will return all of their Danforths as faulty.

Best regards
